From Vanlife to the TEDx Stage: Reflections on Belonging

Several years ago, we stepped into a season of life that changed us more than we ever expected.

Living on the road invited us to slow down, listen deeply, and learn from people and places that reshaped how we understand community, home, and belonging.

While our vanlife chapter eventually came to a close, the questions it raised never really left us. How do we build meaningful connections in a world that is always moving? What does it mean to feel rooted, even when our surroundings constantly change? And how can shared stories bring people closer together across differences?

Last year, we had the opportunity to reflect on those experiences during a TEDx Talk. This conversation is less about the logistics of vanlife and more about the deeper lessons it revealed: the power of human connection, the courage to step outside familiar paths, and the unexpected ways we find community along the journey.

We’re grateful for everyone who was part of that season and for the chance to share these reflections more broadly. If you take anything from this talk, we hope it’s a reminder that belonging is not always tied to a place. Sometimes, it’s something we build together wherever we go.
